STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Florida woman has been arrested on multiple charges after fleeing a traffic stop in Stafford County, according to a spokesperson with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
Just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, Stafford Deputy X.D. Bates reportedly stopped a Toyota Rav4 for making an illegal U-turn at Garrisonville Road and Richmond Highway.
According to the office, the driver was 34-year-old Johanna Contreras of Lauderhill, Florida. Bates found while speaking to Contreras that she did not have a driver’s license. He returned to his vehicle to write summonses for these offenses.
Bates spoke again with Contreras and asked her to sign the documents, informing her that her Toyota would need to be towed.
“She obviously disagreed with the towing option as she sped from the traffic stop like the start of the Daytona 500, and initiated a pursuit,” the spokesperson said.
Bates pursued Conteras onto Interstate 95, where Contreras reportedly pulled into the shoulder just beyond the on-ramp. According to the spokesperson, Contreras was arrested “while continuing to unleash a torrent of insults and obscenities.”
On top of the original changes related to the illegal U-turn and driving without a license, Contreras was also charged with obstruction and eluding arrest, according to the office.
She was held at a local jail pending her bond hearing.
