The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., says three of its officers were shot Wednesday by a suspect who remains barricaded inside a home.

Police Chief Pamela Smith said officers who arrived at a residence in the 5000 block of Hanna Place around 7:30 a.m. to serve an arrest warrant for cruelty to animals were met with gunfire when they attempted to gain entry, according to Fox5 DC.

Smith reportedly added that the suspect remains barricaded inside the property and “continues to fire from this location” in the southeastern part of the city.

“Three officers have gunshot wound injuries that appear non-life-threatening. All three have been transported to an area hospital for treatment,” a police spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
