PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — The Petersburg Bureau of Police is actively pursuing an armed man near Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center, which caused the facility to go into lockdown Monday evening.
An 8News crew member at the scene witnessed at least six police officers chasing a man into the woods near the hospital.
Shortly following this, an officer approached the crew member and told him there was an armed man on the hospital’s property and asked him to remain in his car for the time being.
Police say officers are searching the area of Seyler Drive and the 200 block of Medical Park Boulevard. Residents of the area are asked to stay indoors and anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to call 911.
The department posted on its Facebook Page at 5:39 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12 that officers were at the hospital investigating a “police incident.” The facility is still accepting emergency room patients, but police ask community members to avoid the facility unless there is an emergency.
As of 7:55 p.m., no injuries have been reported by police. Information regarding when the lockdown began, or whether the facility is still on lockdown, has not been shared by the department or the hospital.
