RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — “Before There Was Any History, There Was Black History: The Kemet Collection” is now on display at the Elegba Folklore Society in downtown Richmond.
The exhibition, which opened at the beginning of February, showcases artifacts, photographs and clothing that tell the origin stories of Egypt.
“Our children don’t know the greatness of our past,” Janine Bell, president and artistic director of the Elegba Folklore Society, told 8News. “Their parents don’t know the greatness of their past. The broader community is unaware largely of the greatness of this African past. Africa — the center of the world that has influenced everything.”
Visitors have a chance to learn more about Egypt on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. with the 3rd Saturday Documentaries program. Egyptologist, Anthony T. Browder will be in attendance, and a discussion will follow.
The collection will be open until Thursday, Feb. 29. Admission is free.
