It’s no secret the price of gas is higher than an eagle’s feet right now.
But that doesn’t mean you still can’t live your best life when it comes to doing fun stuff in Delaware.
Here are seven cool, gas-friendly activities you can do in the First State as you’re waiting for the prices to climb back down.
Axe-throwing adventure
You can give your best Kratos or Viking impression while hurling an axe out of frustration over the high price of gas.
Or you could pretend you’re getting prepared for the zombie apocalypse. Or you could just kill time … with an axe.
No matter your reason for hurling an axe in a controlled environment, it’s a therapeutic activity that will give you an excuse to feel more powerful than usual. You can let the handle fly at axe-throwing locations that include Range Time and Stump’s Hatchet House.

‘Festivals’ photography webinar
There are a ton of celebrations around the world. Photographer Tom Tauber will reveal some of them to you as he takes viewers behind his lens in the free webinar “Festivals, Celebrations and Ceremonies Around the World,” presented by the Delaware Photographic Society.
DSP was organized as the Delaware Camera Club in 1931 and is one of the oldest camera clubs in America, according to its website.
Folks can hang out with Tauber virtually when he gives his free webinar at 7 p.m., Sunday at delawarephotographicsociety.org. The Zoom link is under Tauber’s thumbnail photo on the site.
Winterthur virtual tour
Regardless of how famous Winterthur is, not everyone in the Small Wonder has visited it. More than likely this is especially true for folks living downstate. Right now is a great time to go on a virtual tour at Winterthur for free, and hopefully you can visit for real sometime after gas prices dip down into more “normal” ranges.

The 360-degree virtual tour is one that some Delawareans don’t know about. The elaborate tour offers guests the chance to explore seven of Winterthur’s floors, plus see what the space looks like during the spring, summer and fall seasons.
The Winterthur estate features a 60-acre garden designed by H. F. du Pont, along with 1,000 acres of rolling hills, meadows, and woodlands, according to Winterthur’s website.

Skating rink
Every county in Delaware has a skating rink, meaning folks don’t have to drive far to get their roll bounce on.
The nostalgia of skating rinks bring back a lot of memories for some people, reminiscing about shared plates of nachos and pizza, shuffle skating, and the occasional few times you wiped out and embarrassed yourself. The latter sort of comes with the territory.
If you’re looking for something fresh to do, or a couple’s skate with your boo, you can hit the hardwood at Dover Skating Center, Christiana Skating Center and Skateworld.

Enjoy a picnic
Enough people say “life’s a picnic,” but only a fraction of them actually bask in the breeze of the outdoors, while enjoying a packed meal under a shady tree.
One of the good things about picnicking now is you won’t have to defend your meal or your body from a swarm of mosquitoes. Now also makes for nice snuggling weather with your partner outdoors.
Not to mention, the beauty of a picnic is you can easily find a location in any county. Just make sure to pack a blanket, some bug spray (just to be safe) and a fully-charged phone.
Twin Poets performance
In the spirit of National Poetry Month in April, the 17th Poets Laureate of Delaware, brothers Nnamdi Chukwuocha and Al Mills, will be on tap in the Capital City.
Branded as the Twin Poets, Chukwuocha and Mills also are the first twins and African Americans to hold the title of Poets Laureate in Delaware, according to Twinpoets.org.
The brothers have performed on the legendary HBO series “Def Poetry Jam” and they’ve shared the stage with revered wordsmiths including The Last Poets.
