Hopewell man sentenced to over 10 years for possessing modified pistols, fentanyl, other drugs

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A Hopewell man was sentenced in federal court Monday for possessing what was described as two “AR-style semiautomatic pistols,” as well as possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine.

27-year-old Shaone Lovett of Hopewell was sentenced to 10 years and four months in prison for “possessing with the intent to distribute over fifty grams of methamphetamine in Chesterfield County, while also possessing fentanyl, cocaine, and two AR-style semiautomatic pistols,” according to the Eastern District of Virginia’s U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A January 2023 search warrant was carried out at Lovett’s home by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Chesterfield County Police Department. Lovett was found to be in possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as what was described as an “AR-style semiautomatic pistol.”

The pistol had a high-capacity magazine holding 40 rounds. A similar pistol, also found with “dozens” of rounds of ammunition, was located inside the apartment.
