Co-director of ‘The Blair Witch Project’ attending to celebrate 25th anniversary of film’s release
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Horror movie junkies can both enjoy some good film and help break down the stigma surrounding mental health at the Winterland Horror Film Festival Saturday afternoon.
The “Horrific Hope” film event, taking place at the Richmond Public Library’s main auditorium from noon until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, will feature a list of films including ‘The Blair Witch Project.’
The co-director of that cult classic, Eduardo Sanchez, will be in attendance to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film’s release.
The film festival is brought by local non-profit Victims and Villians, an advocacy organization “dedicated to deconstructing the stigma surrounding mental health through the familiarity of pop culture,” according to the organization’s website.
“Depression can make us feel like both a victim and villain,” the website reads. “We exist to remind you that you’re not alone.”
The films are broken down into three categories: the “Traumatic Focus Block,” the “Comfort Food Block” and the “Witches & Boogeymen Block.”
One of the included films, “Hold Me Till The End,” received the 2023 Horrific Hope Film Festival Audience Award.
