PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A Petersburg man has been arrested after assaulting an officer while trespassing on a for-sale property, according to the Petersburg Bureau of Police.
At 5:16 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, a Petersburg police officer noticed someone inside of a shed on the 1200 block of Halifax Street. Recognizing that the property was for sale, the officer approached the suspect.
According to the Petersburg Bureau of Police, the officer witnessed 25-year-old Tayvon Granderson using drugs. When the officer attempted to take Granderson into custody, he reportedly resisted arrest and assaulted the officer.
Additional officers were called to the scene and they assisted the first officer in completing the arrest. Neither Granderson or any of the officers were injured in the struggle.
Granderson has been charged with trespassing on posted property, resisting arrest, assault on law enforcement and possession of cocaine. Additionally, it was discovered that Granderson had an outstanding assault warrant at the time of his arrest.
Granderson is now being held pending a court appearance.
