HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One person is receiving assistance from the Red Cross after a structure fire occurred in Hanover County, just outside of Mechanicsville, on Friday morning.
Units with the Hanover County Fire-EMS Department were called to the 6300 block of Cold Harbor Road for a reported structure fire at 8:34 a.m. Upon their arrival, firefighters found a single-story home with fire throughout.
The blaze was brought under control at 9:11 a.m. A total of 11 units responded to the fire.
All of the home’s occupants exited the structure safely and without injury. The Red Cross is now assisting one adult as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Hanover Fire-EMS encourages all residents to: Check their smoke detectors monthly [and] change their smoke detector batteries every 6 months,” a spokesperson with Hanover Fire-EMS said. “Smoke detectors greater than 10 years [should] be replaced.”
