A family mourns the loss of a young mother of two.Omaha police say 35-year old Regina Bright was trying to make a left turn Saturday night around 11:00 p.m. near 42nd and Grover when 21-year old Jonathan McDougald slammed into her. Officers said he was speeding. Bright died at the scene.Yolanda Delts, Precious Clark, and Nina Guerrero said they wouldn’t know each other if it weren’t for Gina Bright.“We don’t really have a lot of family so we kind of built that with each other,” Delts said.Now, the glue that held them together is gone.“Anybody she met would never have anything bad to say about her. She would just brighten up the room she had a gorgeous smile, these little dimples,” Guerrero said.Through laughter, and also tears, the three remember their friend all the way back to teenage sleepovers. But also in her role as a mother.Bright leaves behind a daughter and son.“Everybody is a mom but some people take their job as mom a lot more serious than others and she was one of those people. Mom was her top role, her top job,” Clark said.Her children, a high school freshman and 8th grader are asking these women to help them bury their mother. The women said Bright’s children understand cremation and burial and have told them they want a place to be able to visit their mother.A GoFundMe will help them accomplish that goal and any money left over will start a trust for her kids.“We want to make sure we send her home the right way. This is the last thing that we can do for her as her friend and so we want to make sure we do it right,” Delts said.The group also plans to hold a candlelight vigil at 42nd and Grover streets Tuesday night at 6:00 to raise funds, but also awareness. They ask everyone to wear teal and said meals will be available for purchase.“Please slow down, take your time, look around you. You never know whose life you’re going to take. But Gina wouldn’t want us to dwell on this. She was a smiley person. Happy,” Clark said.
