HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One person was reportedly killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near the town of Ashland Thursday morning.
The crash was first reported around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 16 and was located on I-95 South near the England Street exit.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash involved five vehicles and one death. State troopers are currently working to identify the victim who was killed and notify the next of kin.
There were no other reported injuries.
Immediately following the crash, all northbound and southbound lanes on I-95 were closed. Traffic was reopened for two northbound lanes around 8:15 a.m. By 2 p.m., two southbound lanes had been opened and all northbound lanes were clear.
Shortly after 9:15 a.m., VDOT reported there was a 9-mile-long backup for northbound traffic and a 3.5-mile-long backup for southbound traffic.
By 6 p.m., all lanes were opened and the scene was cleared.
Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
