A person died in a fire that ripped through 18 residential units and caused an estimated $1 million in damages in Pike Creek early Saturday morning, officials said.
Around 3 a.m., the Mill Creek Fire Company arrived at the 5000 block of W. Brigantine Court in the Mermaid Run Condominiums for reports of heavy fire, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.
Firefighters found one person dead inside an apartment, Chionchio said.
No other injuries were reported, according to officials.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation, officials said.
