1 dead, 4 injured in car accident in Georgetown Sunday morning



An 18-year-old Ellendale woman died and several others were injured in a car crash Sunday morning in Georgetown.

Around 11:40 a.m., a 39-year-old Ellendale woman was driving a Mazda 3 south on Dupont Boulevard (Route 113), south of West Robbins Road, according to Delaware State Police. At the same time, a 58-year-old Bangor, Pennsylvania, man, was driving a Nissan Murano north on Dupont Boulevard.

“For unknown reasons, the Mazda swerved sharply to its left and drove through the center grass median and into the northbound lanes, where it collided with the oncoming Nissan,” police said in a news release.

The 18-year-old was the front-seat passenger in the Mazda. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. Her name will be released after her family is notified.
