Tom Brady wrote the foreword for a new book written by one of his football enemies who was part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl team that cost the legendary quarterback a ring in 2018.
This famous author is former Eagles star defensive player Malcolm Jenkins, who grew up in Piscataway Township, New Jersey.
Delaware Eagles fans can ask Jenkins how he landed Brady for his upcoming, motivational book when he visits Wilmington Public Library for a free speaking event Thursday, Oct. 5.
Although this event is free, seating is limited and it’s first come, first served. So you’ll want to show up early to boost your chance of securing a spot.
Tom Brady stamps book for former Eagles star
The book “What Winners Won’t Tell You: Lessons From a Legendary Defender” will be out Tuesday, Oct. 3, two days before Jenkins visits the library. It provides Eagles fans with insights he’s gained from wins and losses, both on and off the football field, and what it takes to be a champion.
At one point, Jenkins was on top of the world after winning Super Bowls against iconic quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, only to find himself down in the dumps when he divorced the mother of his children.
Readers will learn “what it means to straddle the narrow line between victory and defeat,” according to an overview of Jenkins’ book at Barnesandnoble.com.
Who is Eagles champion Malcolm Jenkins?
Jenkins was drafted in the first round (14th overall) by the New Orleans Saints in the 2009 NFL draft after playing four seasons in college at Ohio State.
During his 13 seasons in the NFL, Jenkins spent seven with the Saints (which included two stints) and six with the Philadelphia Eagles. He earned three Pro Bowl selections, all of which were as an Eagles player.
Jenkins won two Super Bowls. The first was with the Saints against the Colts in 2010, followed by his second with the Eagles over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2018.
The star defensive back retired in 2022. He ended his career with seven touchdowns, 21 interceptions and 1,043 tackles, according to ESPN.com.
The former Eagles player runs the Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, aimed at helping youth cultivate success, especially underserved children in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and Louisiana.
Master P & more stars head to Wilmington library in fall
Wilmington Public Library has an impressive lineup of famous guest speakers coming this fall. All of the events are free and start at 6 p.m.
This includes acclaimed journalist and TheGrio.com columnist Michael Harriot (Wednesday, Sept. 20); hip-hop mogul Master P (Monday, Sept. 18); prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump (Thursday, Sept. 21); and actor Omari Hardwick from the Starz hit show “Power” (Thursday, Nov. 9).
There’s also former Alabama Sen. Doug Jones (Wednesday, Oct. 4). He’s a celebrated prosecutor who brought KKK church bombers in Birmingham to justice after the 1963 killing of Black girls.
R&B singer Kenny Lattimore and his reality-star wife, Faith Jenkins (star of the courtroom reality show “Judge Faith”), are on tap for Wilmington on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Seasoned actress Kim Fields from the ’90s sitcom “Living Single” is set for Friday, Oct. 27. Putting a twist on the “Original Kings of Comedy,” the library will host Fields in an event titled the “Kims of Comedy.”
The “Kims” lineup also features Kim Wayans, Kym Whitley and Kim Coles.
