PHILADELPHIA − You’ll have to wait a while longer to see Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in action, along with the vast majority of the starters.
Few, if any, are expected to play Thursday night when the Eagles face the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. For the Eagles, it’ll be their second preseason game.
The Eagles held joint practices with the Browns on Monday and Tuesday. While Eagles coach Nick Sirianni wouldn’t say who’s playing or not, he did say that the practices are the ideal way for the starters to do their work in a controlled setting.
That means Hurts can play aggressively without getting hit.

“You get a lot of opportunity here,” Hurts said. “You get into a setting like (the joint practices), you just go at it and you compete.”
It’s the same for the Browns as Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski already said quarterback Deshaun Watson and the rest of the starters won’t play.
The game will provide competition for the young players and those hoping to get one of the final 53-man roster spots.
That includes many of the Eagles rookies, such as safety Sydney Brown, who led the Eagles with 9 tackles against the Ravens last week. But it might not include first-round pick Jalen Carter, who got most of his reps this week in practice with the Eagles’ first team.
Carter only played two snaps against the Ravens last Saturday. He nearly had a sack on his first snap.
The two teams last met in the regular season on Nov. 22, 2020, a 22-17 win for the Browns in Cleveland. That was the last time Carson Wentz played a full game for the Eagles. Wentz went 21-for-35 for 235 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions that day.
Hurts replaced Wentz in the second half the following week, then started the final four games of that season.
