A 21-year-old man who police say was drunk while doing doughnuts in a Middletown-area park, causing his Jeep to flip and kill a passenger, has been charged in connection with the early Sunday morning incident.
Jymier Hicks is being held in prison on $75,000 cash bail after being charged with vehicular homicide, a felony, as well as felony receiving stolen property, driving under the influence, malicious mischief by a motor vehicle and criminal trespass for the crash, which killed a 20-year-old man. It happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, Hicks was driving a Jeep Wrangler with three passengers through Bayberry North Park when he started doing doughnuts. The doughnuts caused the Jeep to roll onto its side, pinning the 20-year-old man under the car.
Police and paramedics who responded to the wreck were able to move the Jeep and remove the victim. He was rushed to Christiana Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Hicks was charged on Sunday and booked into prison that afternoon. Police said they will release the victim’s name once family has been notified.
