An escape artist on four legs who ran out onto Interstate 95 at rush hour Friday and was out again Sunday before police rescued the runaway pup.
Enzo, a 10-month-old husky, first made news when he was chased down by police after bringing traffic to a halt on I-95 last week. According to 6abc news, police chased Enzo for a mile after first spotting him at 7:20 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the interstate near Allegheny Avenue.
6abc also reported that in Friday’s police chase, Enzo was hit by a truck, but was not injured by the incident. Once the police captured Enzo, he was brought to Town and Country Pet Care Center in Langhorne.
And on Sunday, only two days later, Enzo went on the loose again.
This time, according to Angela Carpino, the general manager of the pet center, Enzo was chased for 35 minutes up and down State Road by Philadelphia police officers and was captured at the corner of Cotton Avenue and State Road in Philadelphia, a stone’s throw from Interstate 95.
“Apparently it almost caused an accident, and it held up traffic for a bit, but a lot of people stopped to help,” Carpino said.
Carpino explained that pets are legally viewed as property, so the center had no choice but to return it to its owner, a Philadelphia woman both times.
“My reaction Sunday was, ‘Are you kidding me?'” Town and Country owner, Liz Carpino said. “Because I wasn’t comfortable giving the dog back the first time, and I felt so guilty that I had, but legally I had to give it back again [Sunday].”
The owner said Enzo is doing fine at her Philadelphia home. She adopted Enzo a few months ago, and on both Friday and Sunday he escaped by breaking and climbing her 6-foot fence.
“He broke my fence, and I went to recover him from the shelter when I got home from work,” she said. “It’s a typical Husky thing. He’s 10 months old. He’s fine.”
