The Sals made their 16th consecutive appearance in the championship game of the DIAA Boys Lacrosse Tournament, while the Vikings reached the final for the seventh time in the last nine seasons.
Sallies seized the momentum at the most critical time on June 3 at Dover High, scoring five straight goals in the final nine minutes to erase a fourth-quarter deficit and top Cape 13-11 for the school’s 13th state title.
“I couldn’t be more proud of a group of guys,” said Salesianum coach Bob Healy, who watched his team overcome the loss of several top players to injuries during the season. “This was an absolute masterpiece put together by those kids.”
So it should come as no surprise to see many athletes from Sallies and Cape in our final ranking of the Top 44 players in Delaware high school boys lacrosse.
In fact, 14 of the top 17 spots went to Sals and Vikings. But several players from other teams – including Archmere, Wilmington Friends, Tower Hill and Caesar Rodney – made their marks, too.
Our rankings are based on the All-State voting of the Delaware Boys Lacrosse Coaches Association, plus personal observations during the regular season and standout postseason performances. Congratulations to all on a great season.
