RV fire outside Biden Welcome Center leaves father and son inured

A one-year-old boy and his 37-year-old father sustained burns during an accidental flash fire inside of their recreational vehicle in the parking lot of the Biden Welcome Center on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The fire occurred shortly after 2 p.m. during a “cooking mishap” inside of the RV that was parked in the service area off of the I-95 in Newark, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.

The boy and his father were part of a family of eight who was travelling from Florida to New York. The fire involved the ignition of the gas stove aboard the RV, Chionchio said.

Both the boy and the father were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition, officials said. They are both expected to be released from the hospital after treatments.
