A man was badly hurt Monday afternoon after his pickup truck crashed on I-95 in Christiana and burst into flames, first responders said.
Emergency personnel were called to I-95 south at Route 273 around 1:15 p.m. for reports of the two-car wreck, Christiana Fire Company call logs show.
There, first responders found the driver of a pickup truck seriously injured and the driver of the second car also hurt. Both were taken to the hospital, said Christiana Fire Company Assistant Chief Dennis Godek.
According to Godek, the driver of the pickup truck was trapped in his vehicle when it caught on fire. A fire policeman and several civilians who stopped at the scene were able to pull the man from the flames, though not before he suffered burns and “likely” other injuries, Godek said.

Delaware State Police have closed much of the interstate as they investigate and clear the wreck. It’s not yet clear how the crash occurred or what caused the pickup to catch fire.
First responders urge motorists to avoid the area, as traffic is backed up on I-95 south and nearby throughways.
