Police are investigating an unreported fatal accident following the discovery of a body in Broad Creek two weeks ago. The deceased man’s vehicle was recovered from the water Friday.
According to Delaware State Police, on March 12, 2023, around 8:47 p.m., fishermen found the body of 44-year-old Jose Roaro-Alanis of Seaford in Broad Creek. Delaware State Police began an investigation and released the man’s body to the Office of the Medical Examiner body so the cause of death could be determined.
Two weeks later, on March 24, a fisherman located the truck Roaro-Alanis had driven under the Broad Creek drawbridge, police said. Investigators removed the vehicle from the water.
Police investigators determined that sometime between March 11 and 12, Roaro-Alanis drove a 2015 blue GMC Sierra pickup truck southbound on North Central Avenue toward the drawbridge over Broad Creek. For unknown reasons, police said, the truck left the roadway and plunged into Broad Creek where it became fully submerged.
The incident was not reported at the time, police said.
Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Investigators are asking witnesses to call Corporal Grade One J. Smith at 302-703-3267.
