The 60-year-old then veered into the eastbound lane for “unknown reasons,” police said. His tractor trailer struck the 72-year-old man’s compact car head-on, police reported, sending the vehicle spinning off onto the eastbound shoulder of Route 24.

The 72-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police, and was pronounced dead on the scene. Police reported the 60-year-old man was uninjured. Route 24 was closed between Hitch Pond Road and Shiloh Church Road for over four hours, state police said.
