On the day its first Milford store opened, Aldi announced another location in Millsboro will open Thursday, Feb. 23.
The new location is in the Peninsula Crossing shopping center on Route 113 between Lowe’s and PetSmart. It’s about 25 miles south of the Milford store, which took over a former Save A Lot and Sherwin Williams in Milford Plaza.
Where is the closest Aldi?
Together, the stores represent a continued expansion of the German grocery chain into southern Delaware. Aldi opened its first Delaware store in 2016, but until 2021 all of its locations were in New Castle and Kent counties. That year the company took over a portion of a former Kmart off Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach.
What’s different about Aldi?
Aldi is known as a low-cost alternative to traditional grocery stores. Its stores are smaller than most grocery stores and offer products almost exclusively from their own private-label brands. Products are displayed in the packaging they’re shipped in, one of many of the company’s cost-saving measures.
“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” Jeff Baehr, Frederick regional vice president for Aldi said in a statement.
The Millsboro store will be the ninth Aldi location in Delaware. It will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
