Small earthquake detected off of Maryland-Virginia coast


A small earthquake was recorded off of the Virginia-Maryland coast Wednesday night.

The 2.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded about 19 miles east of Chincoteague, Virginia, or 37 miles southeast of Salisbury, Maryland, said the United States Geological Survey. According to USGS data, the earthquake happened at about 8:21 p.m. and the depth was 11.2 km, or just under 7 miles.

As of Thursday, Feb. 9, there were no reports of any injuries or damage.
