Officials are preparing to give a statement about a Pike Creek fire that left four people injured.
Three of the four injured have been taken to an area hospital with injuries that range from minor to serious, said Sgt. Abigail Haas, a New Castle County Paramedics spokesperson. The fourth person declined to be taken to a hospital.
Sam Pritchard, who lives next to the Champions Drive townhome that was consumed in flames, said she was out with her children when she got a call from a neighbor about the blaze.
Her elderly father lives in her townhome and she knew he wouldn’t be able to get out by himself.
She rushed home, arriving several minutes after the neighbor called. She was greeted by firefighters carrying her father out in a wheelchair.
She was able to get her dogs out but her two cats, Meeko and Donna, were still inside.
Pritchard, who was teary-eyed as she spoke, said she “felt like she was going to throw up.” The incident was quite upsetting for her kids, too.
The front wall of a townhome in the 3200 block of Champions Drive in the Fairway Falls development has collapsed and damage could be seen Thursday afternoon on the exterior walls of adjacent buildings.
Responders made spectators move back as they enter the townhome. Medics were waiting nearby with a stretcher.
