Crazy toppings are a hit at Delaware restaurants, great for Super Bowl

Have you ever seenan ice cream sundae decorated with strawberry sauce and candy necklaces? Yep, that’s a weird flex indeed.

But there’s more even where that came from.

Here we spotlight eight dishes from First State restaurants offering crazy food toppings that will knock your socks off – even if your shoes are tied.

Annicerys Viola, general manager at the Sugar Factory General in Dover, holds up the King Kong Sundae, a massive dessert made of 24 scoops of ice cream and other toppings, on Jan. 24, 2022.

You can enjoy these treats during Super Bowl LVI, Valentine’s Day or anytime:

Peebee & Jay Burger, Two Stones Pub, various locations

The PeeBee² & Jay Burger at Two Stones Pub in Newark.

This gastropub takes the lunch sandwich your mom packed for you as a kid and they remix it in a special way. Grab that peanut butter and strawberry jam you used to snack on, but throw it on top of a burger, some pork belly and arugula. Replace that white sandwich bread – that’s known to collapse in the middle – with resilient brioche buns. After building this Lego of a sandwich, you’re left with the PeeBee² & Jay Burger.

Two Stones Pub is located in six locations across two states:

300 Lantana Drive, Hockessin, (302) 239-2200; 1203 Christiana Road, Newark, (302) 294-1890; 840 Kohl Ave., Middletown, (302) 378-8199; 2502 Foulk Road, Wilmington, (302) 439-3231; 843 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, (610) 444-3940; 49 Jenners Village West Grove, Jennersville, Pennsylvania, (610) 345-5689. Queen Pizza – Pizza by Elizabeths – Greenville

Pizza By Elizabeths in Wilmington is a favorite. Pictured is a packed crowd during lunch enjoying the ambiance of Pizza by Elizabeths on March 19, 2014.

It’s normal to see a pizza with mushrooms on it. But it’s unusual to see one that boasts creamy Duxelles sauce, white chicken chunks, Parmesan cheese and mini chives. This regal dish is named the Queen and it exudes a flavorful charisma that’s a standout in the pizza kingdom.

Supreme hotdog – Deerhead Hot Dogs, Newark

Deerhead Hot Dogs in Newark and Wilmington offers unusual toppings like eggs, bacon and coleslaw.

Customers will get a new revelation of the expression “pig out” after they’re served a hotdog layered with bacon and coleslaw. But that’s not all. At Deerhead Hot Dogs, it’s as if Willy Wonka ditched his love for chocolate and got into the meat business, because this restaurant encourages customers to order whimsical toppings (for a little extra). That means customers can style their dogs with items like Swiss cheese, eggs, mushrooms and pulled pork.

King Kong Sundae, Sugar Factory, Dover

This ridiculous dessert serves 12 people. The price reflects it, too. King Kong Sundae is a monstrous dish made with 24 scoops of ice cream and decorated with a glaze donut, a red velvet cupcake, gummy bears, dark chocolate, candy necklaces, caramel and strawberry sauces, caramelized banana, chunks of chocolate-chip cookie, marshmallows, Reese’s Pieces, Oreo cookie crumbles, unicorn pops, graham cracker waffle cones, white chocolate, rainbow and chocolate sprinkles and whipped-cream gummy cherries.
