Can UD women repeat as conference basketball champs?

It’s expected to be a difficult climb back to the top of Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball for Delaware.

Coming off a pair of championship seasons, the rebuilding Blue Hens were picked sixth in the CAA’s preseason coaches’ poll, announced Thursday morning.

Drexel was a near-unanimous No. 1.

Delaware is in its first season under coach Sarah Jenkins. The ex-UD associate head coach, who was on the Penn State staff in 2021-22, was hired after her former Blue Hens boss Natasha Adair became Arizona State coach last March.

Despite a completely revamped roster, Jenkins isn’t limiting her team’s aspirations.

“We have a very young group,” Jenkins said. “We have a group of players who have not played together yet, so that presents its own challenges. But I’m really anxious to see [them] getting an opportunity. It’s an opportunity they have to show themselves, show their skill sets and do something different.
