New Castle County police have charged a 30-year-old Philadelphia woman with the attempted murder of a 26-year-old woman Friday outside the Hunters Crossing apartments in Ogletown.
Responding officers shot Portia Herndon when they arrived at 8:30 p.m. and found her firing at the 26-year-old in what they believed to be a domestic dispute.
Both women were taken to Christiana Hospital, according to police, but are no longer listed in critical condition.

“I am deeply disturbed by the events that occurred on Friday night in the Hunters Crossing community,” New Castle County Police Chief Joseph Bloch said in a statement. “I am proud that our officers quick response and immediate action stopped the threat to other members of the community and likely prevented further tragedy.”
Both officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the Delaware Department of Justice Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust investigates, as is protocol in all officer-involved shootings.
Herndon is in the Department of Corrections’ custody and will be moved to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution when she is discharged from the hospital. Her bail is set at $250,000 in cash.
