With 7:33 to play in the third quarter and Howard leading, 8-0, chaos erupted as fans sprinted for the exits and ran onto the field. Play was stopped and the teams retreated to their sidelines.

At least a dozen Wilmington and DNREC park police officers responded. Wilmington police referred comment to the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, which has jurisdiction over the property. DNREC did not respond Friday night to requests for information.
After a lengthy delay and attempts to clear the stadium were made, the decision was made to call the game for the night. The teams were going to try and resume in an empty stadium, but officials decided to play it safe and send everyone home.
Decisions on finishing the game will be decided at a later time between the two schools.
