New Castle County Police are investigating the “suspicious” death of an 82-year-old man who was found in his Newport-area home Tuesday evening.
A single county police SUV was parked in front of the victim’s single-story house on Wednesday, though neighbors said there was more commotion the day before.
“Today there’s one car, but there were 17 cars yesterday,” said a neighbor who did not want to be identified. Police responded to the E. Christian Street home just before 6:30 p.m.
No movement could be seen inside the home on Wednesday. Outside the house, which showed some wear, a car could be seen parked towards the back of the driveway. A cement angel rested at the top of the home’s red brick steps, while a broken wooden chair could be seen on the neatly cut lawn.
Records show the victim and his wife have lived in the house since they purchased it in 1977, but neighbors said they didn’t know much about the couple.

“They kept to themselves,” said the neighbor who didn’t want to be identified, echoing other residents on the block.
The neighbors said they knew someone had died the day before, but they all said they’ve been curious what actually occurred since police hadn’t told them anything.
Police have not released additional information about the incident, but said there is no threat to the public. Additional updates will follow, a New Castle County Police spokesperson said.
