A 79-year-old man died after his car collided with a tractor-trailer in the Seaford area, according to Delaware State Police.
At 9:20 a.m. Thursday, a tractor-trailer was traveling north on Ross Staton Road approaching Herring Run Road, police said. At about the same time, a Nissan Frontier was driving west on Herring Run Road toward the intersection, according to police.
Police said due to “unknown reasons,” the Nissan failed to remain stopped at the stop sign as the tractor-trailer approached the intersection.
According to police, the driver of the tractor-trailer attempted to steer to the left to avoid the crash but was unable to do so and his truck collided with the front left of the Nissan.
The 79-year-old driver of the Nissan was transported to an area hospital and was later flown to another hospital in critical condition, police said.
He died on Friday, according to police. The Greenwood man’s identification is pending notification to the next of kin.
Police said the 32-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
