A 30-year-old man died Friday evening after he was struck by a car on Route 1 near Du Pont Parkway in Red Lion, according to Delaware State Police.
Police said that the man from Jacksonville, Florida, was walking south on Route 1 around 9 p.m.
At about the same time, a Chevrolet Traverse was traveling north on Route 1 in the right lane, just north of the Route 72 on-ramp, according to police.
Police said that the man entered the right lane “directly in front of the Traverse.” The 30-year-old driver of the car was unable to stop and struck the pedestrian, they said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. His identification is pending notification to the next of kin.

The driver of the Traverse and four others in the car were not injured, police said.
