The suspect in Monday’s mass shooting roamed a Farmington, New Mexico, neighborhood and fired “indiscriminately” at vehicles and at least six houses, Deputy Police Chief Kyle Dowdy said Tuesday during a news conference.

“Hundreds of people” called to report the shooting, which began Monday morning just before 11 a.m., Dowdy said.

Upon arriving on scene, police officers shot and killed the shooter, he said.

The suspect has been identified as Beau Wilson, an 18-year-old student of Farmington High School.

Police are still investigating how the shooter obtained the weapons used in the shooting, though Dowdy said one of the three guns used was legally purchased in November 2022.

No motive has been identified, he said.
