Three people were injured, one critically, in an early-morning house fire in Bear on Thursday.
First responders were called to the first block of West County Drive just after 4 a.m. for reports of the blaze. Christiana Fire Company call logs show the 911 call came in as three people trapped in the home.
New Castle County Police arrived on scene first and confirmed the victims had escaped from the home, according to county paramedics. They all suffered from smoke inhalation.
Paramedics took the three victims – a 49-year-old woman, a 56-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman – to Christiana Hospital. The man and younger woman were reported to be “stable,” while the 49-year-old woman was listed in critical condition.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the blaze and where it began.

The blaze comes about a month after a house fire killed three people and injured two others in Little Creek.
In that fire, which began shortly after noon on Feb. 6 on Main Street, killed a 9-year-old girl, a 42-year-old woman and, last week, a 38-year-old woman.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said it still hasn’t determined where the fire started or what caused it. It remains under investigation.
