$100,000 worth of meth found in SUV by Brunswick Sheriff’s Office deputies after pursuit on I-85

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two people were arrested following a chase along Interstate 85 North by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, after which deputies found $100,000 worth of crystal meth in their SUV.

At 6:02 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, a deputy with Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office working selective traffic enforcement on I-85 North attempted to stop a 2023 Lincoln SUV for reckless driving due to speeding.

According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle disregarded all directions by the deputy to stop and then fled dangerously, reaching speeds over 120 mph and passing other vehicles on the right shoulder.

The driver abruptly stopped the vehicle after entering Dinwiddie County and both people inside fled on foot.

The SUV was left in the road, still in drive, and it continued moving north on I-85 without anyone in it until it hit the side of an unmarked SUV belonging to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

After a short pursuit on foot and search, both the driver and passenger were apprehended without incident.

The driver, 44-year-old Timothy Wayne Turner, of Powhatan County, and the passenger, 34-year-old Margaret Elizabeth West, of the Midlothian area of Chesterfield County were both arrested.

Due to the suspicion of drug trafficking, the vehicle was towed back to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the Investigative Division obtained and carried out a search warrant.

Officials said the search yielded over 7 pounds of crystal Methamphetamine and “several other drug-related pieces of evidence consistent with use and distribution.”

Estimated street value for this amount of crystal meth is well over $100,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

Turner was charged with reckless driving, eluding, driving with suspended license and possession with intent to distribute controlled substance. Turner was also served with two outstanding warrants from Chesterfield County.

West was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was also served with 17 outstanding warrants from Henrico County and 1 outstanding warrant from Chesterfield County.

Both were held on no bond.
