1 cat, 1 dog rescued, other animals missing after house catches fire in Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews rescued a cat and a dog from a house fire in Chesterfield County Monday morning. Other animals are missing, according to authorities.

At 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18, a neighbor called about smoke coming from the house’s attic along Sunset Knoll Road in Chesterfield County.

The first unit with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS arrived shortly after that and found an active fire, which was put out in 30 minutes, according to authorities.

No one was in the home, but a cat and a dog were saved by emergency crews. According to authorities, four other cats are currently missing.

Homeowners have been notified and a resident was at the scene, according to a Chesterfield Fire spokesperson.

Due to water, fire and smoke damage inside, the home is unlivable.

Fire Marshals continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
